Standard hot-rolled steel retains an abrasive iron oxide layer (mill scale) formed during high-temperature rolling. HRPO (Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled) steel undergoes chemical pickling in acid baths to completely strip this oxide scale, followed by an application of rust-preventative oil, providing a clean surface ready for laser cutting, welding, and painting.
